Register for Race Team (Advanced)

Requires completion of CANSail 3 - new this year - CANSail 4 sailors can choose to register and sail with the Race Team - regatta participation is expected.
This program is for the experienced sailor who is ready to be part of the Race Team and represent the Hubbards Sailing Club at local and out‑of‑province events. It is designed for sailors who want to participate in regattas, and team members are encouraged to make every effort to attend scheduled competitions as part of their commitment to the program.
The Race Team program is designed for sailors who are ready to take on the highest level of skill development in the CANSail pathway. At this stage, sailors integrate advanced boat‑handling with race‑focused tactics and strategy, building the competence and confidence needed to participate successfully in regattas. This program is for sailors who are eager to train and compete as part of the Hubbards Sailing Club Race Team, and team members are encouraged to make every effort to attend scheduled competitions throughout the season.
Training at this level emphasizes performance sailing, decision‑making under pressure, and refining the technical skills that allow sailors to excel in a competitive environment. On‑water sessions focus on speed, efficiency, mark roundings, starting sequences, and tactical positioning, while off‑water sessions may include video review, fitness, rules discussions, and race‑day preparation. The goal is to support sailors in becoming confident, capable racers who can represent HSC at both local and out‑of‑province events.
There are FOUR boat/class options at this level:
- Optimist- (encouraged boat ownership at this level, but also available through HSC)
- 420 (available through HSC)
- 29er ( Skiff - available through HSC )
- Laser (ILCA) (supplied by the sailor)
Each class offers a pathway for sailors to continue developing in the boat that best suits their age, size, and competitive goals.
ADVANCED Opti
maximum age 15
Participants must have Coach approval. Sailors will work on refining boat handling skills, tactics, and strategy. This team's goal will be to travel to local and possibly out-of-province events representing HSC. Sailors will receive Optimist-specific coaching from a race team coach. Regattas may fall on weekends and will require support from parents/guardians for team travel.
ADVANCED 420
The Race Team will work on refining boat handling skills, tactics, and strategy. This team's goal will be to travel to local and possibly out of province events representing HSC. Sailors will receive 420 specific coaching from a race team coach. Regattas may fall on weekends and will require support from parents/guardians for team travel.
ADVANCED 29er ( SKIFF )
The Race Team will work on refining boat handling skills, tactics, and strategy. This team's goal will be to travel to local and possibly out of province events representing HSC. Sailors will receive 29er (Skiff) specific coaching from a race team coach. Regattas may fall on weekends and will require support from parents/guardians for team travel.
Laser (ILCA)
Personal boat ownership is required for this program.
The team will work on refining boat handling skills, tactics, and strategy with the goal of traveling to local and possibly out-of-province events representing HSC. Sailors will receive Laser-specific coaching from a race team coach. Regattas may fall on weekends and will require support from parents/guardians for team travel.
This program is offered in two-week sessions. Each program runs Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m for both weeks. Here are the session dates for 2026:
